The Right Click Option

The computer folks will understand the logic here. When you use a computer mouse, and you right click in your computer option section, you get can enter “properties” which allows you to change things in your computer settings, all by yourself. You don’t have to explain anything to anyone, you don’t have to vote with a team, you basically have all the power in your hand to make changes and modify what you are dealing with.

In real life…not so easy. We have an internal “properties option” that is not available to other people. People have interesting internal sets of thoughts, goals and beliefs that are not easily modified, even by them.

So let’s join the team of positive thinking. Allow yourself the luxury of recognizing that you might not be able to change someone else by the click of a button, but you can be a positive light. Remind yourself that you can bring positive energy to the conversation, and if you are greeted with a negative response, delete their response from your “memory,” and keep moving forward. You do not need to be manipulated and changed by someone’s negative thinking and comments. You have all the power to stay positive.

Worry Is Exhausting!

Worried about something that seems to be controlling a lot of your time?

Re-focus. If you are worried about something that you have no direct control over, it’s time to challenge yourself to go into a different direction. You are wasting precious moments that you could be investing into something that would make a difference.

If it is a relationship, a problem at work, issues with finances, whatever it may be; choose right now to rise to the challenge and lead yourself down a different pathway.

Think of something that you can make stronger and better. Work towards a positive outcome. Allow yourself to keep your strength up and encourage positive energy to flow. You have so much good in you! The Power of Wi-Fi

We are living in a Wi-Fi World…seamless connection...to anything and everything.

We tend to put a lot of stock into what we read and learn on the internet. Is it such a great idea? Should you believe what is being thrown your way on the internet, or are you keeping your critical thinking skills intact?

The amount of information that is at our fingertips is astounding, but people still need to connect to people. The computers and cell phones need to be put down every day, and people need to remember how to communicate with each other. If you are really locked into your “electronics,” abstract thinking about things like Faith, Hope and Understanding, may have little or no meaning.

Do not let that happen to your children, family members and people who matter to you. Faith is a critical foundation that allows powerful development and skills to emerge. Talk to the important people in your life. Enable them to learn the value of Faith. Set a powerful example! “Now let’s get going!” xo Sally

Begin To Change

Embrace Change-don’t argue with it.

There are so many times we come face to face with a situation that is uncomfortable, it is hard to keep track of them all. How do you handle difficult conversations that can escalate into confrontations?

The first thing to realize is that changing your approach, or modifying your reaction to something, does not show weakness. If you tend to “react too quickly” or if you have been told that you “over-react” to situations, you need to recognize the signs that you feel start to erupt inside you, before your mouth takes off. When you are aware that your breathing pattern is changing or you start to move around in your chair and cannot sit still, it helps to learn ways to cope with frustration, so you can adapt, without creating more disruption than the change itself.

Self-control is a marvelous thing. Learn how to use it to maximize your response to your children, your co-workers, and yourself. Implement a simple response. When you feel that whoever is talking to you is going to cause you to spiral out of control, take a deep breath, and listen to what the person is saying-rather than jump in with your commentary.

If you don’t agree with their comment its ok,…keep working on your own personal change. Take yourself to the next level. Listen. Watch. Grow. You can be that manager or company owner, if you work on the change you want to be.  "Now, let's get going!" xo Sally

Question #1: When I am taking my chemotherapy drugs I feel so weak that it is hard to take a shower. What would make it easier?

     Taking a shower is one of the most underestimated things I know. Not only does it help you to feel refreshed, it can simply brighten your day. It is important to take a shower, and if you need some equipment in the shower to make it less difficult, then get the equipment but remember these simple rules:

     If you are going to use a stall shower, you need to sit to shower. The heat that is generated from the steam when you shower can actually weaken you, during the showering process and make it more difficult to breathe. A good shower seat should have a back, and have adjustable legs, to make it easy to get up and down from. If you can find a shower chair with arms, that is a comfortable fit, using the arms would help you get up and down as well.

     Use a hand held shower. They are easy to install by unscrewing the existing shower head and screwing on the new one. There are a few on the market that have a button on the handle that will allow you to turn the water flow off at the handle by pushing the button, while you lather up or wash your hair. It is a great feature that you will use more than you think.

Question #2:  How can I stop feeling negative when I feel badly?

I wish there was a magic wand that I could wave to make things better. The trick is that you need to start each day by reading positive messages. Keep a journal of your goals; what you are going to do when treatment is over and you can resume your life. Look forward to tomorrow and start developing some ideas of what you will be able to do with all that you are learning through your current experience.

Remember that experience is the best teacher. You may or may not have a specific skill that you learned in school, but what you are going through will make you an expert…and you can become a blessing to another person who will have to travel the same or a similar journey. Your experiences and how you overcame the rough times, will be invaluable insight to another person.

Believe that your life is just beginning a new chapter. It will be a chapter rich with experience and honestly learned life lessons. Never underestimate what you will be able to do for someone else.

Caring For The Breast Cancer Patient

Throughout the course of treatment, the main rule is to SMILE. Be grateful for each day. Love your life and what you are learning. Stay positive. Know that with each step you take…the outcome will be great!

So here are the other rules for the patient...but good for the caregivers too:

  1. Smile (we already talked about that)
  2. Practice energy saving techniques: sit when you can (even loading the dishwasher or making a salad at the kitchen table).
  3. Take at least one nap a day in the afternoon, but limit it to 2 hours, so you can keep a normal day/night schedule.
  4. Keep a journal of daily activities that includes medications taken and any side effects or symptoms, so when you see your health care providers you can be accurate. In other words; it may seem like you feel like crap all day, but actually when you get accurate about it, it may only be if you don’t eat before you take your medication.
  5. Pay attention to what you eat and when. Your nutrition is critical to your wellness and will play a big role in helping you regain your strength.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I think we all know someone who has had breast cancer. It is that common. Even though it is common and there are many advances related to treatment, it continues to be a diagnosis that brings fear to the heart of us all.

The main reason: we picture the worst. We know “stories” of survivors and some who have not survived. We’re told that the research has improved so much, that treatment can often be adjusted to the type of cancer that needs to be treated.

There are many great resources to review, to educate yourself regarding breast cancer. It is important to know how to do self-examinations, as well as the importance of your family history.

Breast cancer does not need to be a death sentence for many people these days. It is critical to understand that breast cancer is not a disease that affects women only. Men can have breast cancer, and we need to keep that in mind.

Check out the following web sites for more information. Stay informed. There is a strong network of survivors out there that can help guide you to good treatment. Never underestimate local support groups in your area. Call local hospitals or oncology offices and ask where support groups are being held, and who the contact person is! Whether the information is for you or a loved one…get out there and stay ahead of the cancer.

Chase Your Dream

Do You Feel Like You're Drowning?

Are you feeling like you are “over your head?” With all of the things competing for our daily attention and our involvement, it is easy to do.

Every day we are pulled from one thing to another, mostly due to our own making. If your family, job, or lifestyle are causing you to feel overwhelmed; stop and re-evaluate what you are doing to yourself.

Pick the most important things to focus on, even if they have to change on a daily basis. Try not to give one thing your full attention all the time, and try not to focus on just on what you want, what you need, the money you have to have, etc. You may think that way, but look at the bigger picture and make sure that you realize that your success will become a reality if you surround yourself with like- minded people.

The people who surround you have to be positive, goal oriented and uplifting. You have to have the same characteristics toward others. You’ll struggle to the top if it is always all about you.

Become Superior!

We learn something new every day, and some of the most painful lessons come from making mistakes. The bonus is that when you are working to accomplish something, and you make mistakes in the process, you learn a lot more from those mistakes than if you were sitting still and avoiding the decision to make a decision.

Learn to decide. Do not avoid making a choice, when you are confronted with the need to make one. Your decision may not be everyone’s favorite solution, but if you think you have a better chance to have an outcome that benefits the majority of the needs that need to be met, you will have made a good choice.

Life can’t always be a contest to win friends and influence people. The hard choices have to be made to solve problems and create a better outcome for the issues at hand. You will learn more. You will be more successful. You will grow. “Now, let’s get going!”  xo Sally
