Basheerah Ahmad (MS, MHR, CPT) - Celebrity Fitness Expert is a woman who understands what it takes to impact the lives of others. Her love for performing and working with inner city youth, led her to receive the coveted title of Miss Black America in 1996. Basheerah spent her reigning year traveling the country promoting Healthy Living through the Arts. A year later, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma, with honors, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and in 2001, a Master’s Degree in Organizational Development. While completing her education she continued to work in the areas closest to her heart; youth mentorship and performing arts. From 1998 to 2001, she helped create several groundbreaking youth performing arts programs in the state of Oklahoma. In addition to helping youth find their voices through performing arts, Basheerah also worked for years as a Youth Mentor, Drug and Alcohol Preventionist, and Sex Education facilitator in the non-profit arena.
It was as she worked as an Artistic Director for Inner City Dance in Oklahoma City that Basheerah began to take a closer look at the health of her students. Although many of them were extremely talented, they were not healthy. It was at this point in her life that Basheerah began to dedicate her career to the world of obesity and injury prevention. In 2001, Basheerah decided to take her love for performing and fitness to another level by moving to Los Angeles, CA. After years of hard work and preparation, she is considered one of the fastest rising Fitness Experts in the industry.
Basheerah’s list of clients includes:
Carrie Underwood, Vivica A. Fox, Steve Harvey, Jordin Sparks, Lauren Alaina, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Chante’ Moore, Keith Robinson, Andre Pitre’., and numerous others.
Basheerah has been featured as a recurring Fitness Expert on Dr. Phil, ‘The Doctors’, VH1's Hollywood's Hottest Bodies, and was also a featured trainer on the Discovery Channel's National Body Challenge. Currently audiences around the country can catch Basheerah as the Fitness Expert, for a second season, on the Lifestyle TV show, ‘America Now’. Recently featured as a celebrity trainer in Seventeen Magazine and People Magazine, Basheerah is also a published fitness writer for Ultimate Fitness Magazine, Ultra Fit Magazine, Inside Fitness Magazine, Max Sports and Fitness, Physique Magazine, Society Magazine and Fit Figures. She is also a former member of Jillian Michael’s Fitness Team.
Basheerah is currently the advanced Fitness Expert in the groundbreaking Weight-loss program, The PINK Method. Ms. Ahmad is a Master personal trainer, an aerobics instructor, a Fitness Nutrition Coach, and holds numerous certifications in cardio kickboxing, circuit boxing, and body sculpting. She also has over 25 years of experience in classical dance and Pilates. Basheerah holds a Master Degree in Exercise Science from the California University of Pennsylvania, and recently authored her self-help book; Love yourself enough to be healthy: 50 affirmations to your best life.
Even with her television and magazine career flourishing, and International exposure growing, Basheerah felt compelled to reach back to the community where she first understood how to live a healthier life and decided to create a non-profit organization entitled Not My Legacy. The Not My Legacy Foundation was created in direct response to an alarming percentage of American youth who are either obese or diabetic. The mission of Not My Legacy is to prevent obesity and improve academic excellence among youth throughout the country and abroad.
Basheerah is the 2012 recipient of the Zora B. Brown award for her service in Health and the Arts.
